One thing I am learning is that creating a web page takes time. I knew that before I started, but now I am getting to know exactly HOW MUCH time this takes.
So why invest the time? It’s not like I have idle time that was begging to be put into a web page.
For about the last 20 years I have been using sketch books to record ideas. A lot of the content is idle doodles that never went anywhere. BUT, there are several project ideas that are really interesting. Many of them have been expanded into conceptual designs in CAD. A few of them have been built (but not many).
I began the process of retiring about 2 years ago. The sketch and CAD time went up. The build time went up. However, not all the build time focused on the sketch concepts. Home improvement projects can take a lot of time.
It is becoming clear that it is not likely that I will build every design. And if I build them, only a few people will get to see them.
How do I share my work with a larger audience? Of course I am making a significant assumption that my designs will be of interest to anyone but myself. I’ll learn about that assumption as I start to share.
I have shared some of my finished work on a web site called craftisian. The site is a good place to share projects and learn from others, but not so good for sharing designs and plans.
A web page could work. I can share concepts, CAD images, plans and finished projects.
And I think it will be worth the time.
